About the Hotel

Originally built in 1929, Chateau Tongariro takes its guests back in time to the roaring '20s. The entire atmosphere of the hotel is designed to take you back in time. From its rich history to its grand interior architecture, everything about Chateau Tongariro screams "timeless elegance". 

The hotel is situated in the heart of Tongariro National Park, in the Village of Whakapapa. The hotel is dedicated to conserving the heritage of the local Maori people, as well as the land and diverse landscapes surrounding the hotel. With lots to discover, Chateau Tongariro is the perfect place to sit back and relax, connect with local heritage, or explore and breathe in nature.

Hotel Amenities

If you really wanted to, you could spend an entire week just relaxing in the Chateau Tongariro. The hotel itself provides a peaceful and restful environment where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere. Of course, the hotel also offers all of the basics, including room service, a full gym, a hot tub/jacuzzi, a sauna, and an on-site restaurant that offers delicious Pacific Rim dining. 

If you're looking for something a little more casual, the chateau also offers a cafe and T-bar, as well as an additional Alpine-themed Tavern Restaurant. If you want the full Chateau experience, you can also pamper yourself with a traditional High Tea meal. 

Looking for things to do outside of the hotel? Chateau Tongariro has lots to do, including an on-site sports court with access to tennis courts, basketball nets, and a child's playground. Of course, we can't forget one of the Chateau's main attractions - a "rugged and natural" 9 hole golf course.

What's Around?

Chateau Tongariro is beautiful enough to spend an entire week on-site, but if you're travelling to New Zealand, we're guessing you want to see some of the sites. As mentioned above, the Chateau offers its own sightseeing tours, so don't hesitate to ask the concierge about the different tour options.

 Outside of that, there are lots to see and do in the area! Here are some of our top suggestions:

Head to the Whakapapa Ski Area to check out one of New Zealand's most extensive ski slopes, or to ride the Gondola through the mountaintops and to one of New Zealand's highest cafes.

Take a challenging trek through the 20km Tongariro Alpine Crossing for some of the best scenery and cultural experiences in New Zealand.
